Which future for the Daintree Rainforest will your children and grandchildren inherit?

Imagine it’s the year 2030. That is just 18 years from now. Perhaps your children have grown up. Or perhaps your children have children of their own. When you think about it, 2030 is really not that far away.

Imagine two possible scenarios for the Daintree Rainforest in the year 2030.

Scenario 1 sees the biodiversity values of the Daintree have been irreversibly compromised and the last Cassowary in the wild has died as a result of continued rural residential development.

Scenario 2 sees all remaining undeveloped private rainforest properties protected forever and Cassowary population number increasing.

No doubt we can all agree on which scenario we want to leave as a legacy for our children and the future of the Daintree Rainforest.

An important vision for the Daintree Rainforest.

We at Rainforest Rescue, have an ambitious plan for the Daintree Rainforest. We want to buy back more properties than ever before and we urgently need your help to make this vision a reality.

There are 180 Daintree properties that Rainforest Rescue needs to buy back. We want to see them all bought and protected by the year 2030.

Ultimately, to buy back every one of these properties, we must raise approximately $15 million over the next few years. That’s the equivalent of approximately 20 average residential properties in Sydney.

We hope you’ll agree that this vision is critical, tangible and achievable.
To kick-start the campaign, we must raise $250,000 by 30 June.

Please act before it’s too late

With every month that passes more land will be developed. In the last few months, two houses have been built on rainforest that we wanted to buy back and save.
Every month we delay buying a property means more rainforest lost to development forever.

There are five key properties that are listed by real estate agents right now that have been identified as our top priorities to buy back.

Each of these properties has development approval. In fact, the real estate agents often have ads featuring the pristine rainforest on these blocks with an arrow urging people to “build your home here”.

Why now is the best time to donate

Right now, the great news is that residential property prices in the Daintree are at their lowest in many years. Prices may fall even further. This means we can snap up some real bargains – even though, to us, this rainforest land is priceless.
But whilst we might be getting cheaper prices, it means that developers will be too. This is why this vision to buy more properties than ever before, faster than ever before, is so urgent.

As soon as we have the funds, we will commence negotiations to get the best deals possible to achieve the best outcome possible.

Every property that is lost to development is devastating for the plants and animals of the Daintree Rainforest, particularly the Endangered Southern Cassowary. It is estimated that Cassowary numbers have fallen to an alarming 1,000 in the wild.  Stopping the housing development in the Daintree Rainforest is vital to their very existence.
